Mariano Rivera of the New York Yankees had his No. 42 retired by the team in a special ceremony at Yankee Stadium on September 22. Rivera was the last player to wear the number after its universal retirement in MLB in honor of Jackie Robinson. Chipper Jones of the Atlanta Braves had his No. 10 retired by the team on June 28 against the Arizona Diamondbacks. He was the 11th player to have his number retired by the Braves. On March 1, 2013, Fox Sports South and SportSouth announced they have picked up 45 more Atlanta Braves games, ending the team's contract with WPCH-TV.
MLB and the World Baseball Softball Confederation jointly manage the international World Baseball Classic tournament. The San Diego Padres and Colorado Rockies scored 92 runs during their four-game series from June 13 to June 16 to set a Major League record. They broke the record of 88 runs that was set in May 1929 by the Philadelphia Phillies and Brooklyn Robins. Became the first team in the modern era to win a game that lasted nine or more innings while having just one baserunner, according to Elias Sports. This was accomplished on September 14 against the Cincinnati Reds.

Red Ruffing, Earl Wilson, and Don Drysdale are the only other pitchers to hit at least 25 home runs. Jack Stivetts hit a total of 35 home runs in his playing career, 21 as a pitcher. Ferrell and Ruffing also rank among the top pitchers in batting average, hitting .280 and .269, respectively. Tony Cloninger is the only pitcher to have accomplished the feat.

Beltré is the only player to have completed all three cycles in the same ballpark, with the first occurring as an opponent of the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Park in Arlington. Trea Turner hit his third career cycle on June 30, 2021, against the Tampa Bay Rays; his first two cycles were hit against the Colorado Rockies. Christian Yelich hit his third cycle on May 11, 2022, against the Cincinnati Reds, becoming the first player to have all three cycles come against one team. Anderson broke the Angels' franchise record for RBIs in a game, previously set by his teammate, Vladimir Guerrero, who had nine RBIs on June 2, 2004, against the Boston Red Sox. Anderson also became the first player since Alex Rodriguez to hit 10 RBIs in a game, doing so on April 26, 2005, ironically in a game against the Angels at Yankee Stadium.
World Series era (1903–present)
Fox aired eight weeks of baseball on Saturday Nights which led up to the 2019 Major League Baseball All-Star Game which also aired on Fox. Fox then televised Saturday afternoon games for the final four weeks of the season. FS1 televised games on Tuesday and on Saturday both during the afternoon and night.
The channel is owned by Rogers Communications, who is also the parent company of the Blue Jays. Sportsnet also televises Fox's Saturday afternoon games, the All-Star Game, playoff games, and the World Series. In April 2011, TSN2 began carrying ESPN Sunday Night Baseball in Canada. MLB All-Stars from both leagues have worn uniforms from their respective teams at the game with one exception. In the 1933 All-Star Game, the National League All-Star Team members wore special gray uniforms with "National League" written in navy blue letters across the front of the jersey.

Craig Biggio, second baseman for the Houston Astros, got his 3,000th career hit on June 28 against the Colorado Rockies at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas. Biggio was 5-for-6 in the game and was thrown out at second on his 3000th hit. Biggio became the 27th member of the 3,000 hit club, and is one of only nine players to get all 3,000 hits with one team. Biggio announced later in the season that he would retire following the completion of the season, finishing his career with 3,060 hits.
September 15 – Ken Griffey Jr. hits homer #52 and drives in the 1,000th run of his career in the Mariners' 12–7 win over the Minnesota Twins. He becomes the fourth–youngest player in history to reach the milestone, after Mel Ott, Jimmie Foxx and Lou Gehrig. In the late 1880s, Detroit and Washington of the National League and Brooklyn of the American Association were the first to wear striped uniforms. By the end of the 19th century, teams began the practice of having two different uniforms, one for when they played at home in their own baseball stadium and a different one for when they played away at the other team's ballpark. It became common to wear white pants with a white color vest at home and gray pants with a gray or solid colored vest when away. By 1900, both home and away uniforms were standard across the major leagues.
On September 2, 2001, Mike Mussina of the Yankees gave up a two-strike single to Boston Red Sox pinch hitter Carl Everett. The opposing pitcher in the game was David Cone, who had thrown the most recent perfect game two years earlier as a Yankee. On June 3, 1995, Pedro Martínez of the Montreal Expos had a perfect game through nine innings against the San Diego Padres. The Expos scored a run in the top of the tenth inning, but in the bottom, Martínez gave up a leadoff double to Bip Roberts, and was relieved by Mel Rojas, who retired the next three batters. Martínez was therefore the winning pitcher in a 1–0 Expos victory.
Robinson's promotion met a generally positive, although mixed, reception among newspaper writers and white major league players. Manager Leo Durocher informed his team, "I don't care if he is yellow or black or has stripes like a fucking zebra. I'm his manager and I say he plays." Ruth set the Major League Baseball single-season home run record four times, first at 29 , then 54 , 59 , and finally 60 . Ruth's 1920 and 1921 seasons are tied for the widest margin of victory for a home run champion as he topped the next highest total by 35 home runs in each season. The single season mark of 60 stood for 34 years until Roger Maris hit 61 home runs in 1961 for which MLB assigned an asterisk until reversing themselves in 1991 citing Maris had accomplished his record in a longer season.

The Miami Marlins wore a circular patch on the right sleeve of the throwback International League Marlins uniforms on July 20 against the Brewers to honor Satchel Paige, who played for the IL Marlins from 1956–59. The patch is blue with Paige's No. 29 in orange with white trim.
The network's final telecasts took place on September 28 and September 29 . Effective with the 2020 season, Cubs games will move exclusively to the new Marquee Sports Network, while White Sox games will air full-time on NBC Sports Chicago. This was the sixth year of the current eight-year deals with Fox Sports, ESPN, and TBS.
